Arches National Park, UT

Day 2 in Moab was the trip to Arches National Park.  We were less lucky with the weather as there was a haze in the afternoon but still got some great shots at Delicate Arch which we hiked to in the morning.  (You may recognize Delicate Arch from the Utah license plate.)  We also hiked to Landscape Arch in the Devil’s Garden, but missed a few other hikes we planned to go on, so I guess we’ll just have to come back one day!

Canyonlands, UT

We headed back to Utah for at stay in Moab during Week 12.  The hour drive out to Canyonlands National Park was the first stop.  We hiked the Mesa Arch Trail, White Rim Overlook Trail, Grand Viewpoint Trail, and the short hike to Upheaval Dome Lookout (which is seen in the last pics where the canyon looks like it is covered in green sand).  On the Grand Viewpoint Trail we met a nice couple from New York, who told us this is their 5th year coming back to Canyonlands.  They feel it’s “even better” than the Grand Canyon and we agree, it’s pretty magnificent (sorry again, Grand Canyon).  Also the bathrooms were really clean and somehow that just made the day better.  There wasn’t a cloud in the sky so we were able to get some great pics (including a rare selfie in our dorky hiking hats).  A trip to Moab wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Moab Brewery, so we ate there on the first night, which will give us an opportunity to go back again and again this week.  Johan can’t wait to come back with Nik and the guys so they can take 4x4s out to the off-road trails – this is extreme sports heaven (for dirt lovers) so we’ll be back for sure.
